KEMPER WILLIAMS PARK

General and Mrs. Kemper Williams left the Idlewild Plantation in trust to be developed and designated as The Kemper Williams Park for use and enjoyment by the public. In 1979, the Kemper and Leila Williams Foundation donated the property to St. Mary Parish. The property is currently managed by the Kemper Williams Park Advisory Committee. The 292 acre park with grants and financial assistance from parish, state and federal governments along with private donations has capital improvements valued in benefit for the local, state, and regional populace. The property hosts numerous and various athletic events including golf, baseball, tennis, horseshoes, soccer, camping and picnicing. A civic center and a state museum with exhibits reflecting the areas past aviation and lumber industry is also located on the property.
